Delphine B. Saparoff

December 27, 1913 - October 10, 2009

Loving Wife and Mother

Delphine B. Saparoff, age 95, of Foxboro, died on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Norwood Hospital. She was the wife of Michael Saparoff.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Gallagher) Campbell. She had lived in Foxboro for over fifty years. For the past ten years, she was under the loving care of the Maples Nursing Home in Wrentham.

Mrs. Saparoff graduated from Simmons College School of Social Work in 1936 and subsequently served as class secretary for many years. She was a Medical Social Worker for the City of Boston for six years and helped to establish the first social welfare unit in Long Island Hospital, Boston Harbour, in 1936.

Mrs. Saparoff was a member of the Foxboro Monday Club for many years and then became an honorary member. With Mrs. Vivian Belko she initiated a Chapter of American Association of University Women in Foxboro. She also was a substitute teacher in the Intermediate School during the 1960’s, secretary of the Foxboro PTA, a member of the Women’s Club, and served as Bethany Church Sunday school teacher, Bluebird leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and Rainbow Mother. She was an accomplished needlework craftswoman making quilts and afghans to her own designs.

Mrs. Saparoff was a world traveler and with her husband visited many countries, often several times. She always accompanied her husband presenting slide shows of their voyages. She also shared her husband’s interest in music at the Harvard Musical Association.

Mrs. Saparoff is survived by two sons; Peter Saparoff, a Boston attorney, and Dr. Gerald Saparoff, an ophthalmologist at Newport Hospital in Vermont. Her daughter Carol Fox lives in Dublin, Ireland and is prominent in the political movements there. Besides her children, Mrs. Saparoff leaves seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a sister, Mary Lane of West Dennis.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at the Barton Chapel at Bethany Church, Rock Hill Street, Foxboro at noon on Wednesday, October 14. A funeral service will be held immediately following. Interment to follow at Rockhill Cemetery. For additional information please contact 508 543-5471.
