Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather

Simon Katsis

Simon Katsis, age 79, died on Sunday November 4, 2007 at his home in Foxboro surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late Theodhos and Aspasia (Sturgis) Katsis.

Simon was born in Korcha, Albania on August 22, 1928 and immigrated to the Unites States at the age of 15. He graduated from Boston Trade High School in 1946.

Simon was an instrument maker and Engineer Assistant by trade. He worked in the Instrumentation Lab at MIT and was Engineering Assistant and Machine Shop Supervisor on the Deep Submergence Rescue Systems Program (DSRV) at Draper Labs in Cambridge for over 35 years.

Simon was a member of the MIT Quarter Century Club and Draper Labs Quarter Century Club. He was the only player on the Labs Noontime Softball League Team who played on championship teams spanning 5 decades (1950’s into the 1990’s).

Simon was a member and past treasurer of St. George Cathedral in Boston. He was the recipient of the Herald of St. Constantine Medal at St. George Cathedral and member of the Sons of St. George.

Simon loved spending time with his four grandchildren , was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends and trying his luck at the casinos.

Devoted husband of Afrodita (Kreshpani) Katsis. Loving father of Corinne Bresse and her husband Ronald of Foxboro and Doreen Romano and her husband Nichlas Brock of Westborough. Loving grandfather of Joseph, Steven, Nichlas and Alexandra.

Brother of the late A. Agnes Zissi. Uncle of Katherine Demis and her husband Rennie Grugan of Chelmsford and Cynthia Lassell and her husband Stephen of Walpole. Granduncle of Alissa and Amanda Lassell.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 8, for 2-4 & 7-9 at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro. A funeral service will be held at the St. George Cathedral, 523 East Broadway in South Boston on Friday at 11 AM. Interment to follow at the Dell Park Cemetery in Natick.
