Russell E. Wheeler Jr.

October 19, 1927 - February 02, 2009

Attleboro Community Vonunteer

Russell E. Wheeler Jr., age 81 died on Monday, February 2, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late Russell E. and Caroline Mae (Metcalf) Wheeler.

Russell was born in Foxborough on October 19, 1927 and attended Foxborough Public Schools. Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII.

Russell has been a resident of Attleboro for over 40 years. He worked for L. G. Balfour Company in Attleboro for many years until retiring in the 1980’s. He was a former member of the Foxborough call fire department and South Attleboro Rescue Squad.
At one time he was the head of the Attleboro Civil Defense and head of the Attleboro Red Cross. He was a volunteer for many Attleboro programs including the Project Share food pantry. He was known as the Mayor of Tex Barry’s Coney Island Hot Dog Stand in Attleboro center.

Beloved husband of the late Mary G. (Davis). Loving father of Roland and his wife Karen A. Wheeler of Cranston, Albert Wheeler Jr. of Attleboro, and the late Charles Wheeler. Brother of Ernest Wheeler of Oregon and Albert Wheeler Sr. and his wife Marjorie of Foxborough. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends a kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday February 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South St. in Foxborough center. A funeral will be held with U.S. Air Force honors at 11 AM on Friday at the Funeral Home.
