John Albert Martin

March 12, 1923 - January 01, 2007

WWII US Navy Air Corps Pilot

John Albert Martin, Age 83, died at his home surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late John and Mary (Cavanaugh) Martin.

John was born in Boston on March 12, 1923 and was a native of Milton. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy Air Corps as a pilot during WWII serving in the South Pacific. He later served in the Naval Reserves where he flew many times out of Squantum until 1958. John married his wife Dorothy A. (Coleman) on May 1, 1948 at St. Mary of the Hills Church in Milton. He attended Northeastern University in Boston.

John worked for over 35 years for United States Steel Corp. in Pennsylvania and retired as a sales engineer in 1988. He was a former member of the rescue squad and volunteer fire department in Martinsville, New Jersey. He was also a former Selectman and Director of Emergency Management for the town of Thomaston, ME. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 93 in Foxboro.

John was an avid saltwater fisherman and enjoyed fishing the waters off Basket Island in Biddeford, ME. John was also a sports enthusiast and an avid New England Patriots fan.

Beloved husband of Dorothy A. (Coleman) Martin. Loving father of Elizabeth Marie Martin of Connecticut, Cynthia Louise McDermott of Milton and Dorothea Ann Borowski of Penn. Grandfather of Gerald E. Ott Jr. and Braden J. Ott. Great Grandfather of Benjamin C. Ott.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral at 10 AM at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South St. Foxboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter Street, Foxboro. Interment to follow at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
