Richard L. Dorr

Past Commander of the Sharon American Legion Richard L. Dorr, Sr. age 69, of Foxboro, died at the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center in Stoughton on Tuesday July 3, 2007 surrounded by comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late Oscar and Eunice (Wilber) Dorr.
Richard was born in Norwood on March 27, 1938 and was a graduate of Sharon High School, Class of 1956. After graduation Richard joined the United States Air Force and served with the 35th Air Defense Missile Squadron in Korea. He married his wife Sally (Suomi) in Seabrook, New Hampshire on September 2, 1961.
Richard was a letter carrier for the Sharon Post Office and retired in 2003 after 34 years of service. He was a past commander as well as a life member of the Sharon American Legion Post Number 106. Richard was a member of the Foxboro Cribbage League for 35 years.
Richard enjoyed vacationing with his family in the Winnipesaukee area of New Hampshire. He was a Little League coach in Foxboro for twenty years and enjoyed attending the Pawtucket Red Sox games every season. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes on the Foxboro Horse Shoe League and was a member of a bowling league.
Along with his wife Sally, he is survived by his children Ralph Dorr of Lake Vale, FL, Rick and his wife Gina Dorr of Foxboro, Ken and his wife Brenda Dorr of Lincoln, RI and Marc Dorr of Attleboro. Grandfather of Kristi, Adam, Zachary and Keith. Great grandfather of Daemon and Hayden. Also survived by his brother Eddie and his wife Dottie Dorr of Gorham, ME.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 7 at the Union Church of Foxboro at 11 am. Burial to follow with full military honors at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
