Janet M. Boomhower

May 16, 1924 - October 18, 2006

Janet M. Boomhower, age 82, died 0n Wednesday October 18, at the Caritas Norwood Hospital surrounded by the comfort of her loving family. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Gertrude E. (Galley) Murphy.

Janet was born in Boston on May 16, 1924 and was a graduate of Jeremiah Burke High School in Dorchester. She was a former Randolph resident and has been a resident of Norwood since 1966.

As a young lady she worked at the Uphams Corner Market candy counter for 28 cents an hour. She then worked as a nurse at St. Margarets Hospital in Dorchester. She was the founder, owner and operator of the ABC Nursery School of Norwood.

Janet was a volunteer for Birthright for 22 years and for the former Summerhill House of Norwood. She was also a volunteer for the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Norwood.

Beloved wife of the late George R. Boomhower, Loving mother of Robert F. and his wife Judy of Foxboro, Christopher G. and his wife Mary of Norwood, Frederick and his wife Marianne of Middleboro, Janet M. Poirier and her husband Thomas of Foxboro and Jeanne M. Boomhower and her significant other Gerald Coleman of Palermo, ME. Devoted Grandmother of Danielle Frane of Braintree, Nicholas Boomhower of NC, Amanda Poirier of Attleboro and Melissa Poirier of Foxboro. Great Grandmother of Tori Boomhower of NC. Sister of Ruth DeSantis of Weymouth, Jeanne DeVito of Stoughton and Carol Ouellette of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Sunday October 22, from 3-7 PM at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South Street in Foxboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 23, at 9:am at St. Catherine of Siena Church 549 Washington street in Norwood. Interment to follow at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
