Foxborough-Mary Elizabeth Callahan, age 82, died on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Caritas Norwood Hospital surrounded by the comfort of her loving family. She was the wife of the late Paul G. Callahan and daughter of the late Joseph and Carmelita (Mullins) Gillespie. Mary was born in Boston on July 6, 1927. Mary proudly served her country in the United States Nurse’s Corps during WWII. She and her husband Paul were married on October 1, 1949 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Chelsea. She has been a Foxborough resident since 1957. Mary was a graduate of St. Rose High School in Chelsea, Class of 1944 and attended Framingham State College, Chelsea Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Boston College School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD, Norwood Hospital, Foxborough Health Center, Foxborough Raceway, the Foxborough, Company, Serenity Hill Nursing Home in Wrentham and was a nurse for the Foxborough Public Schools. Mary was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Foxborough and was a member of the St. Mary’s Scholarship Committee, past President of the St. Mary’s Women’s Guild, one of the original members of the Foxborough Founders Day Committee and participated in Minstrel Shows at St. Mary’s Church in Foxborough and at the Foxborough American Legion. Beloved mother of Paul J. and his wife Maureen of Woodbridge, Virginia, Edward M. and his wife Jean of Salem, New Hampshire, James M. of Jacksonville, Florida, Patricia and her husband Nils Bolgen of Foxborough and Mary Beth and her husband Charles Lepkowsky of California. Loving sister of Edward and his wife Susan Gillespie of North Reading and James Gillespie of Danielson, Connecticut Also survived by eleven loving grandchildren and one loved great grandchild Funeral InformationRelatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday February 9 from 4 to 8 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednsday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 53 Carpenter St., Foxborough. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Foxborough. Donations Information
