John L. Smith

John L. Smith, age 81, died on Sunday, May 28, at Caritas Norwood Hospital. He was the son of the late John and Esther Smith.

John was born in Harrisburg Pennsylvania where he was raised, on December 8, 1924. He then moved to Worcester where he graduated from Worcester South High School. He has been a Foxboro resident since 1952.

John was a Staff SGT. In the 754th Bomb Squadron with the 458th Bomb Group U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during WWII.

John and his wife Laura were married on November 20, 1948 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester. He attended North Eastern University and earned a degree in engineering at Wentworth Institute in Boston.

He was a professional Engineer with Korslund, LeNormand and Quann, Inc. of Norwood and Ganteaume and McMullen of Boston. He retired in 1989.

John was the past commander of the Foxboro VFW post 2626. He was a member of St. Alban’s Lodge A.F. and A.M. in Foxboro and the Association of the Second air Division of the Eighth Airforce. He loved to travel with his wife and played for many years in the town cribbage league. He also loved to play golf and was an active member and volunteer with the Foxboro Senior Citizen program.

Beloved husband of Laura M. (Pellerin) Smith. Loving father Charles A. and his wife Terri Smith of Wilton, Maine, Linda E and her husband Woody Pelotte of Sidney, Maine, Jeanne M. and her husband Jerry Ducharme of Stoughton and the late Diane M. Smith. Brother of MaryJane Bigger of Millbury. Also survived by eight grand children and one great granddaughter.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday June 1, from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home 30 South Street Foxboro, Funeral with military honors will be held on Friday June 2, at 11:AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

A Masonic service will be held on Thurs. June 1 at 8:PM by his fellow members of Saint Alban’s Lodge A.F. & A.M.of Foxboro.
