Former Owner of Lawton Farm in Foxboro

Norman Fairbanks Lawton, age 88, died on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Kindred Care Nursing Center in Stoughton. He was the son of the late Albert and Ruth (Morse) Lawton.

Norman was born in New Bedford on February 8, 1919 and was a life long resident of Foxboro. He was a graduate of the Norfolk Agricultural High School in Walpole and then graduated from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass/Amherst in 1937 with a degree in poultry husbandry. He raised poultry at his family farm in Foxboro from the 1920s through the 1970s, shipping chicks all over the world.

In 2002 he was one of the first people to be inducted in to the newly formed prestigious 4-H Hall of Fame which put him in the company of only two others from Massachusetts and only 100 nationally.

Norman served for many years on the State Records of Production Committee and represented Massachusetts at the National ROP conventions. He also served on the County and State Poultry Assoc. This lead to becoming State delegate to American Poultry & Hatchery Federation where he rose to the position of First Vice President. He also served on the board of trustees for the Eastern State Exposition for many years.

Beloved husband of the late Lillie M. (Johnson). Loving father of Edward Lawton and Norma Faria both of Foxboro and the late Russell and Steven Lawton. Brother of Phyllis Webber of Foxboro and the late Roger Lawton. Also survived by 7 grand and 4 great grandchildren.
