Joseph Daniel Hurley

August 01, 1943 - July 18, 2010

Retired English Teacher for Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury

Foxborough- Joseph Daniel Hurley, age 66, died at his home on Sunday, July 18, 2010 surrounded by the comfort of his loving family after a year long battle with cancer.

Joe graduated from Iona College, NY, attended Notre Dame and earned his Master’s degree from Northeastern University. His teaching career began as a member of the Christian Brothers in Antigua, West Indies. Upon his return to Massachusetts, after working for New England Telephone for a few years, he returned to the teaching profession at Catholic Memorial High School. He remained there for 37 years, retiring last summer. Teaching was always his first love but he also had many other sidelines, including former owner of Personal Touch Limousine company. A youth basketball coach for many years, he continued as a JV girls coach at Foxboro High.

Joe was the son of the late Leo and Florence (Ryan) Hurley. He was married to his loving wife Lynn for 39 years. He is also survived by daughter Shauna and her husband Matt Curran of Plainville, daughter Jennifer and her husband Michael Yurof of Plainville, and the late Jason Hurley. He is the beloved grandfather of eight. Joe is the beloved brother of William Hurley of Foxboro, Mary Hurley-Bruno of Scituate, Richard Hurley of NH, Rosemarie Hurley of NY, Robert Hurley of Marshfield, and the late Leo Hurley Jr. Joe was also uncle to many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 23 from 4 to 8 pm at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 24 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter Street, Foxboro. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Foxboro.
