Doris Comings Sims PondFebruary 19, 1923 - December 26, 2008
POND, Doris Comings Sims, formerly of Foxboro, Massachusetts, died on Friday, December 26, 2008, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. She was 85 years old. Born on February 19, 1923, in West Rupert, VT, to Frederick and Lillian Law Comings, Dot grew up in Foxboro. She was graduated from Foxboro High School, and was employed as a bookkeeper for the Kirby Coal Company until she married Arthur A. Sims of Walpole, MA, in May of 1945. The couple settled in Foxboro, where they lived for almost 35 years before moving to Cape Cod. Shortly after they took up residence in Falmouth, Arthur passed away, and about ten years later, Dot moved to Pinellas Park, FL, where she eventually met and married Everett Pond. Most recently, she resided in Seminole, FL. Dot is survived by her two sons, Wayne Albert Sims of Fairfield, CT, and Arthur Allen Sims of Plainville, MA and Raleigh, NC, and her daughters-in-law, Bonnie and Rhoda Sims. She had four grandchildren: Shannon R. Sims of Fairfield, CT, Jennifer L. Sims of San Diego, CA, Erica Sims Silva of Tyngsborough, MA, and Christopher M. Sims of Plainville, MA. She had one great-grandchild, Ava M. Sylva, also of Tyngsborough, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings include Marjorie Comings Oliveira of Stratford, CT, and Frederick Comings of Bourne, MA. Socially active her entire life, Dot’s early interests included volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America. She was an ardent golfer, dancer, bowler, and contract bridge player for many years. Most recently, she participated in numerous group activities through her residential facility, including the Red Hat Society, an organization of women who greet middle age with verve, humor, and elan. She will be greatly missed. Funeral InformationA brief memorial service will be held for friends and family on April 4th at 1:00 pm at the Roberts Funeral Home, 30 South St. in Foxboro, followed by a collation at the Foxboro American Legion Hall.
