Mrs. Frances Schmitz

March 12, 1921 - August 16, 2008

Owner of the former Fran's Flower Shop of Mansfield

Frances (Komnatzky) Schmitz, age 87, died Saturday, August 16, at Wentworth Assisted Living in Salt Lake City, UT. She was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Matelietsa) Komnatzky.

Frances was born on March 12, 1921 in Boston. She was a graduate of Brookline High School, Class of 1939. Frances has been a resident of Salt Lake City for the last 4 years, but before moving she had been a 48-year resident of Foxboro. She married her late husband, James Howard Schmitz, on June 16, 1940 in Boston, MA.

Fran was the owner and operator of Fran’s Flower Shop in Mansfield and Foxboro until her retirement in 1984, and she was a friendly visitor for the Foxboro Council on Aging. Her passion in life was being an avid collector and creator of dollhouses and miniatures.

Beloved wife of the late James Howard Schmitz. Loving mother of Ruth A. (Paul) Cherecwich of Salt Lake City, UT and Janet B. (William) Riley of Pawtucket, RI. Loving grandmother of Peter Cherecwich of Barrington, IL, Pamela Schuller of Beaverton, OR and Steven Cherecwich of Roy, UT. Also survived by eleven great grandchildren, three nephews and one niece. Frances was predeceased by her grandson David Cherecwich.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a calling hour on Friday, August 22 from 11 am -12 pm at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 116 South Street, Foxboro. Interment to follow at Rock Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Habitat for Cats, PO Box 79571, North Dartmouth, MA 02747, an organization which is a no-kill sanctuary for cats which have been abandoned.
