John J. Ahern

Retired High School Principal John J. Ahern, 83 of Lakeview Road, a retired Foxboro High School principal, died Tuesday in Caritas Norwood Hospital
Born on April 8, 1922, he was the son of the late Timothy and Annie (Desmond) Ahern. He was a 1940 graduate of Foxboro High School, where he served as class president, and a 1947 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He earned a master’s degree from Columbia University.
Mr Ahern was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving for three years.
He served as principal of Foxboro High School for 15 years, from 1957 until his retirement in 1972. After his retirement, the former Intermediate School was renamed the John J. Ahern Middle School in his honor.
Mr. Ahern was a devoted friend, role model, and educator for several decades in the Foxboro community.
He is survived by his sister, Mary, and her husband, Herbert Welch, of Allentown, PA. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Ahern.
Funeral Information
A funeral Mass will held Friday, April 29, at 9 a.m.. in St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter Street, followed by interment with Air Force honors in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home, 30 South St. Foxboro.
