Thomas H. Morrison

October 18, 1922 - July 18, 2005

A funeral service will be held Saturday July 23, at 2 P.M. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on South St. in Foxborough, Mass. for Thomas H. Morrison who passed away Monday, July 18 in Dunedin, Florida at the age of 82.

A long time Foxborough resident,"Tom" Morrison was born in Pawtucket, RI on October 18, 1922, and grew up in Rhode Island and Massachusetts with his brothers Jack Morrison and Donald Morrison and sister Muriel who died in childhood.

Tom graduated from Pawtucket High School, became a Naval Cadet, and went on to train as a Naval Aviator in 1942, achieving his certification as an aircraft carrier pilot and the rank of Ensign. After completing his service in the Navy, he married Ruth E. Grayson of Cumberland, R.I., in December of 1945. He worked as a machinist at Haskell's in Pawtucket, and eventually went on to work for the Foxboro Company where he was employed for 35 years as a manufacturing engineer.

For many years as a Foxborough resident, he was a "Ham" radio operator with the call sign K1WLK. He was a long-time member of the Foxborough Country Club, U.S. Coast Guard Power Squadron, and a free-mason of the Overseas Lodge No. 40 of Rhode Island.
He was very instrumental in building the Angler's Club of Wrentham. An avid salt- and fresh-water fisherman who made his own lures, rods, and tied his own flies, Tom was a "fixture" on Naragansett Bay for a good part of 40 years. He spent a lot of time on Prudence Island, R.I. with his family and friends, in Naragansett with Joe Tatori of Tatori's bait shop, and with his close friend Lester C. Boyd, author of Atlantic Surf Fishing: Maine to Maryland in which Tom and some of his adventures have been recalled.

Tom Morrison is survived by his brother Donald Morrison of Cumberland, R.I.; three daughters: Janet A. Morrison of Clearwater, FL, Marilyn Morrison Fisher of Santa Ynez, CA, Ann E. Morrison of Dunedin, FL, and a grand-daughter, Katherine Morrison Vazquez of Ontario, CA. His parents were the late Henry A. and Annie (Hopkinson) Morrison of Rhode Island.

Funeral Information

Calling hours are at Robert's Funeral Home on South Street, Foxborough, from 12:00 to 2:00 on Saturday. The Reverend Tara Soughers, interim rector, will preside at St. Mark's Church and at the burial immediately proceeding at Rock Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Ruth.
