Bernadette Doris (Ares) Hixson, age 68, of Norton, formerly of Sharon, died Thursday, September 1, at the New England Medical Center in Boston.

She was born on January 26, 1937, the daughter of the late Rosaire and Adrienne (Gobeil) Ares. Bernadette was a 1959 graduate of Emmanuel College, a 1980 graduate of Northeastern University and a 1995 graduate of UMASS of N. Dartmouth. She retired in 1980 after 20 years as a chemist from the Brockton City Hospital. She was a member of the American Association of Clinical Chemists and a member of the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.

Loving mother of Stephen J. Hixson of Torrance, CA, Theodore W. Hixson of Clifton Park, NY, Jennifer A. Mooney of Vero Beach, FL and Joseph N. Hixson of Casselberry, FL. Also survived by five grandchildren. Beloved sister of Paul Ares of Plainville and Lucille Murphy of Sandwich, MA.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours on Monday, September 5 from 5 to 8 pm at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 6 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, Norton, MA. Interment to follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon, MA.
