Gilbert Alfred Stuart

Former Mansfield Resident Gilbert Alfred “Gil” Stuart, age 85, of Milton, FL, formerly of Mansfield, died on May 1, 2007 peacefully at Covenant Hospice of Pensacola, FL surrounded by family and friends. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Bentley) Stuart, to whom he was married on June 29, 1946.
Born in Winthrop on July 15, 1921, he was the son of the late Guy Alfred and Viola (Crosby) Stuart. He was the devoted father of five children: Wayne F.Stuart and his wife Janet of Concord, NH, Kevin G. Stuart of Norton, Carol S. Calfee and her husband William of Pensacola, FL, Wendy J. Cummings and her husband Berton of Foxboro and Linda E. Young and her husband Thomas of North Atleboro. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Hood of Englewood Isle, FL, his brother Eldon Stuart and his wife Eleanor of Middleboro, and his sister Sunny Wickson and her husband John of Tewksbury. He was preceded in death by his younger sister Myrtle. He was the beloved grandfather of nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Gil graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939 and from Aero ITT Tech in 1940. After training on the west coast at Aero Industries Technical Institute for Lockheed and becoming a master Instrument Technician, Gil served with honor in the US Navy Sea Bees as an EM3 from 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He settled in Mansfield in 1948 where he lived for the next 48 years. He had a distinguished career with General Electric where he worked as a Master Electrician with Local IBEW from 1947 to 1986.
Gilbert was past commander and life member of the American Legion. He was a past Master and life member of the Mansfield Grange, a member of the Rhode Island Shriners, the Mansfield Band Parents, a thirty second degree Mason and a life member of the VFW. After moving to Milton, FL, Gilbert enjoyed spending time in his retirement traveling, gardening and bird watching.
Funeral Information
The family would like to give special thanks to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola for the extraordinary care given to Gilbert. Memorial services will be held at the Chapel of Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High Street, Canton, MA on June 1, 2007 at 9:30 A.M.
