Joseph C. Childs

Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather Foxborough-Joseph Clemmey Childs, age 83, died on Friday, April 9, 2010 at his home surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. Joseph was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mary E. (Clemmey) Childs.
Joseph was born on May 10, 1926 in Centerville Village of Barnstable. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in WWII. In 1947 he graduated from M.I.T. with a degree in Physics. He and his wife Ann were married in Schenectady, NY on November 13, 1954. He has been a Foxborough resident for over 50 years.
Joseph was a lead instrumentation engineer at GE’s Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Schenectady and was involved in the development of the nuclear submarine the U.S.S. Sea Wolf. He worked for over 29 years as an engineer for the Foxborough Company, retiring in 1985.
An avid traveler, Joseph enjoyed RV excursions throughout our country and Canada as well as world travel. He was a member and past president of the Foxborough Historical Society. He was also a member of the St. Mary’s Church Choir, the Serenading Seniors, Mass. Cross Country Ski Club and the Top of the Hill Gang. Joseph was a devoted family man.
Beloved husband of Ann (Walker) Childs. Loving father of Dr. Andrew F. Childs of Falmouth, Joseph W. Childs of Belmont, Warren Childs of Norwell and Peter Childs of Lexington. Devoted grandfather of Amelia, Joseph W, Wilton, Ben, Timothy, Danny and Joseph C. Childs. Brother of Richard and his wife Mary Childs of Barnstable, Bill Childs of Exeter, NH, and the late James, Ralph, and F. Warren Childs.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Monday, April 12, 2010 from 4-8 at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home 30 South St. in Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter St., Foxborough.
