Donald P. MacFarlane, of Foxboro, formerly of Halifax and Mansfield, age 90, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham. Donald was the son of the late Oscar W. and Alice (Douthwright) MacFarlane.

Donald was born in Taunton on January 20, 1917 and was educated in Taunton Schools. Donald proudly served his country as a Staff Sargent and Construction Forman in Company C, 174th Combat Battalion in the South Pacific during WWII. He and his wife Ethel A (Keating) were married on August 27, 1939 at their home in Raynham.

Donald first worked for Mansfield Machinery and then for S.W. Card Company in Mansfield. He worked for over 17 years for the Foxboro Company as a Mechanical and Tool Designer. He retired in January, 1979.

Donald was a former member of the Mansfield Planning Board. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed riding his bicycle and loved playing cribbage and pinochle.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ethel A. MacFarlane; a much loved sister in-law, Virginia M. Keating of Mansfield; two nieces, Robin Nunes and Jill Anthony of Mansfield and a nephew Kenneth Keating of Foxboro and several other nieces and nephews. He was also uncle of Kay Louise Campion who passed away only two weeks ago. He was the brother of the late Hazel G. Cranmer and Charles R. MacFarlane.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Monday, December 17, from 12-2 at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A procession will leave the Funeral Home at 2 PM for an interment service at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
