Lifelong Mansfield Resident Lillian N. (Goddard) Briggs, age 72, died Friday February 22, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the loving wife of Henry E. Briggs Jr.of Mansfield.
Lillian was a lifelong resident of Mansfield. She was born in Mansfield on December 2, 1935, the daughter of the late Charles and Genevieve (Mowry) Goddard. She graduated from Mansfield High in 1953 and was married to Henry E. Briggs, Jr. a few years later. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage together. She was a fabric finisher for many years with her brothers at George’s Cleaners of Mansfield and also Ray’s Dry Cleaners of Wrentham. Lillian came from a large family and always enjoyed visiting her family and attending the yearly Christmas parties and cookouts. She always looked forward to her Sunday morning coffee with family and friends.
She was the devoted mother of Nancy L. and her husband Ralph Merrifield of Mansfield and the late Sally Ann Wood. She enjoyed her five grandchildren, Christina Wood, Matthew Wood, Katie (Merrifield) Frageorgia, Brian Merrifield and Sarah Merrifield. She was also fondly remembered as “Lala” to her many nieces and nephews. Lillian was the sister of Helen Baker and Genevieve Ronhock of Plainville, Raymond Goddard of Mansfield, Thomas Goddard of South Attleboro, James Goddard of North Attleboro, She was also the sister of the late Donald Goddard, George Goddard, Ruth Staples and Evelyn Maynard.
Funeral Information
Calling hours will be on Monday February 25 from 5-8 PM. The funeral service will be on Tuesday February 26th at 11 am the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South Street Foxboro.
