William O. Downs

January 01, 1928 - March 04, 2008

Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather

Foxboro-William Otis Downs, age 80, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Brigham and Women’s Medical Center in Boston surrounded by the comfort of his family. He was the son of the late Edwin and F. Celesta (Germain) Downs.

Bill was born in Foxboro on January 1, 1928 and moved to Dedham when he was in the 6th grade. After graduating from Dedham High School he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He and his wife Barbara were married in Somerville on October 26, 1951.

Bill was educated at Wentworth Institute and Petersons Steam Engineering School and took various other courses. He served in many different positions while working for the Foxboro Company for over 21 years. After the Foxboro Company Bill worked for Texas Instruments as a Power House Engineer until retiring in 1993.

Bill enjoyed spending the winter with his wife in Florida. They started spending winter in Sanibel, FL in the Mid 1980s and when they retired they wintered in Ft. Myers. He liked fishing and loved rollercoasters. He also enjoyed carpentry work as a hobby and enjoyed playing golf.

Bill loved his children and grandchildren and worked hard all his life to make life easier for his family.

Beloved husband of Barbara (Jackson) Downs. Loving father of Lucinda "Cindy" Carrison and her husband Ken of Scituate, Heather Cruickshanks and her husband Duncan of Reading, and Paul W. Downs and his wife Pam of Mamaroneck, NY. Devoted grandfather of Mark, Michael and Jennifer Carrison, Sara and Alexander Cruickshanks and Chloe and Troy Downs. Brother of Evelyn Jackson of Marshfield and the late Edwin and Alvah Downs.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday, March 7, from 4-8 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow with Navy Honors at Rock Hill Cemetery in Foxboro.
