Michael F. Murphy
January 15, 1926 - January 11, 2010
Retired Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School Foxborough – Michael F. Murphy, age 83, a long time Foxborough resident, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He was the son of the late Michael J. and Mary (MacAuliffe) Murphy.
Michael was born on January 15, 1926 in Brookline. He was a graduate of the Boston Trade School, Class of 1943, attended Wentworth Institute and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fitchburg State College. He proudly served his country in the US Navy in Southeast Asia during WWII. Michael married his wife Mary on April 11, 1953 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood.
Michael was employed as a draftsman and first worked for GE in Lynn and Tobe Duchman in Norwood in the 1950’s and then worked for International Equipment in Needham during the late 50’s and 60’s. In 1966 he changed careers to become a teacher at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, retiring in 1992.
Michael was a member of the Foxborough Democratic Town Committee, Mass Governor’s Council on Vocational Education under Governor Dukakis. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Senior Center in Foxborough and the Senior Center in Nashua, NH.
Beloved husband of the late Mary F. (Pennacchio) Murphy. Loving father of Michael of Norwood, Frank and his wife Anne of Mansfield, and Steve and his wife Karen of Nashua, NH. Devoted grandfather of Michael, Sean, Christopher, Justin, Zachary and Julia. Great grandfather of James and Aiyana. Brother of the late Nora A. Murphy.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Friday, January 15 from 4 to 8 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 16 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter Street, Foxborough. Interment to follow with U.S. Navy honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Foxborough.
