Vincent M. Igo, Jr.

May 20, 1922 - January 19, 2006

Vincent M. Igo, Jr., age 83, died at his home in Foxborough on Thursday, January19, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late Vincent M. and Mildred (Kirby) Igo.

Mr. Igo was born at his family home in Foxborough on May 20, 1922. He Graduated from Foxborough, High School in the class of 1940 and attended Dean Junior College in Franklin. Mr Igo was a lifetime active member of St. Mary’s Church in Foxborough.

Mr. Igo worked for the Foxboro Company from 1943 to 1990. He was a former Assistant to the publisher and up until his death a contributing writer and news photographer for The Foxboro Reporter where readers have been “Going Along With Vin Igo” for decades.

Mr. Igo was a member of the Foxborough Recreation Committee and one of the founding members of the Foxborough Little League. In 1968 he was named Friend of 4H in Foxborough and in 1969 was recognized in the F.H.S. Yearbook and was a Lifetime member of the Foxboro Lions Club

In 1975 Mr. Igo was made a life time member of the National Approved Basketball Official. He refereed all over including for the Harlem Globetrotters in the old Boston Garden. Vin was Named to the F.H.S. Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979.

In 1976 Vin’s old High School was named the Vincent M. Igo School Administration Center and in 1995 it was Changed to the Vincent M. Igo Elementary School. He is also the recipient of numerous local and state citizenship and service awards over the years.

In 1976 Jack Authelet of the Foxborough reporter wrote that Mr. Igo was a Elected official, appointed school committee Member (since 1959, served many of those years as chairman), a servant on numerous boards and bodies. His Involvement in his community has been so broad it almost defies compilation.

Beloved husband of 50 years of Helen D. (Rose) Igo. Loving father of Christine Igo Freeman and her husband James of Foxborough. cousin of James Igo of Canton and Veronica (Kirby) Noel of Texas. Brother of the late Clare Engly. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and friend to young and old alike.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 and on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South St. Foxborough. Funeral on Monday January 23, from the Roberts and sons Funeral Home at 10 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter St. in Foxborough. Interment to Follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Foxborough.
