You-Wen Tang, age 84, of Foxboro, formerly of Taiwan, died at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro on October 30th. He was the son of the late Ray-Fong Tang and Yuen Chin Wong Tang. Born January 15, 1922 in Beijing, China, he grew up in a military family during wartime, and was in pilot training in the Chinese Air Force when he met his wife in Cheng Du, Szechuan, China. In 1949, he and his family fled to Taiwan with the Nationalist Party during the Communist takeover of China. Resourceful, adventurous, and charismatic by nature, Mr. Tang gained fluency in the Taiwanese dialect and became involved in numerous enterprises over nearly three decades in Taiwan, and additionally ran for elective office. From opening the first western-style coffee house in Tainan, to venturing into foresting, gravel excavating, and recycling businesses, his entrepreneurial spirit was a legacy that he passed on to his children as the family immigrated to the U.S. in 1977. Residing in Foxboro for the past 29 years, Mr. Tang and his family established the Cheng-Du Restaurants in Mansfield, Westboro, and Stoughton, and EO Noodle in Framingham. Husband of the late Shu-Lan Tang. Father of Shen-Jung (Ann) Booth of Davenport, FL and her late husband Robert Booth, An-Rung (John) Tang of Norton and his wife Lorraine Tang, Kuo-Rung Tang of Westboro, Chieh Tang of Norton, Lei Tang and his wife Wen-Ting (Tina) Tang of Stoughton, and Ti (Sonny) Tang and his wife Melissa Tang of Mansfield. Brother of Shu Wen Tang Lee of China, the late Zhu Wen Tang of Taiwan, Wen Tang of Taiwan, and Grace Tang Wu of San Diego, CA. Grandfather of ten, and great-grandfather of five. Mr. Tang’s family gratefully acknowledges the dedication and caring support of Dr. Petit and the doctors and nursing staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Funeral InformationRelatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, November 7th from 10-noon, followed by a memorial service at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro.
