Gary W. Hall

August 20, 1925 - August 22, 2008

Devoted husband, father and grandfather

Gary Walter Hall, age 83, of Foxboro, died on August 22, 2008. He was the husband of Louise A. Hall. Mr. Hall was born in North Adams, MA and was raised in Wilmington, VT. He graduated from Ithaca College with a BS degree in 1953 and earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University in 1957.

Mr. Hall served overseas with the US Army in N. Africa and Italy during WWII. He participated in three battle campaigns in Italy as a combat medic. He was awarded a Bronze Star for heroic achievement in action and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He taught Physical Education in the Sharon Public Schools for over thirty-two years and served thirteen of them as Athletic Director. For several years he was Chairman of the Physical Education Department and at various times during his tenure coached baseball, gymnastics and soccer. He was a member of the Sharon High School Hall of Fame. In 1983 he was commended by the Sharon School Committee for developing, implementing and coordinating the CPR Program at Sharon High School. In 1985 he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Meritorious Service to the Profession of Health and Physical Education by the Mass Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Mr. Hall was an instructor of adult physical fitness in the Adult Education Program for several years and during the summer months served as playground supervisor for the Sharon Civic Foundation. In the 1970’s, he assisted coaching and officiated ice hockey games at all levels for the Foxboro Youth Hockey Program.

Besides his wife Louise, to whom he was married for fifty-five years, he leaves three sons; David M. Hall and his wife Donna of N. Attleboro, Ronald A. Hall and his wife Lori of Norton and Richard N. Hall and his companion Marianna Cibulasova of Vineyard Haven. He was the loving grandfather of Brittany and Shelby Hall of N. Attleboro and Jamie, Valerie and Derek Hall of Norton. He is also survived by two nieces; Lynn Stewart and Connie Hall, both of Wilmington, VT.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Sharon Congregational Church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
