Merle Kathleen Caton

March 28, 1926 - November 26, 2006

Former FISH Volunteer

Merle Kathleen (Hiller) Caton, age 80, died at her home in Foxboro surrounded by the comfort of her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Mildred J. (Congdon) Hiller.

Merle was born in Foxboro on March 28, 1926 and was a graduate of Foxboro High School, Class of 1944. She was also a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School of Boston in 1945. She married her late husband, Edward M. Caton on September 6, 1948. She was a life long member of Bethany Congregational Church where she was a former member of the choir and served on various committees. She was also a volunteer driver for FISH of Foxboro for over thirty years. Merle at one time worked for the late Dr. Edmund Plonowski and Dr. Robert Hayward. She also worked at Rea Craft Press of Foxboro.

Merle was involved with minstrel shows at the American Legion in Foxboro and was known for her involvement with the Walk-on crew, portraying Mother Nature and Gigi of the Fiji Islands and others. She was also known for portraying Mrs. Santa Claus at the Foxboro 99 Restaurant employee family Christmas party. The people from the 99 restaurant were very special to her. She was an avid bowler and bowled for many years at the Foxfield Lanes and Northbowl Lanes.

Forever being a charitable person, she started donating to causes in school when she donated pennies to get the USS Constitution refitted. She continued donating time and money to various causes until shortly before her death.

Wife of the late Edward M. Caton, Jr. Beloved mother of Jane M. Buratti of AL, Grant R. Caton of NC and the late Gordon W. Caton. Dear companion of Leon Schuyler of Foxboro. Loving sister of Lois V. King of Lowell, , Karen C. Breede of MS and the late Allene M. Potter. Also survived by six grandchildren, Christine, Michael, Carrie, Sean, Hillery and Rebekah and three great granddaughters, Paige, Caitlyn and Addyson

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Sunday, December 3 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A funeral service will be held at Bethany Congregational Church, Rockhill Street, Foxboro on Monday, December 4 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Rock hill Cemetery.
