David Story WhitingJanuary 22, 1927 - October 09, 2006
David Story Whiting, age 79, of North Attleboro, died on Monday October 9, at the Pleasant Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Attleboro after a long battle with Alzheimers. He was the son of the late Herbert E. and Ethel B. (Cutts) Whiting. David was born on January 22, 1927 in Haverhill and was a graduate of Merrimac High School Class of 1944. He Proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war David attended Bates College in Maine where he graduated in 1951. He also was a graduate of Boston University were he earned a degree in Public School Administration and Supervision. David was a retired teacher, elementary school principal and Coordinator of Library and Media Services for the Newton Public Schools. He was a writer for the Carnegie Foundation Educational Publication through Newton Public Schools. David and his wife Dorothy were married on August 9, 1986 at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Foxboro. He was a long time member of the Church of Our Redeemer and was member of the Church Building Committee. David was a former volunteer at the prison colony in Norfolk and was a member of the Neponset Choral Society. He enjoyed the outdoors where he loved biking, hiking, canoeing and gardening. He also enjoyed painting, sketching and woodcarving. Beloved husband of Dorothy H. (Haupt) Whiting. Loving father of John C. Whiting of Worcester, Mark D. Whiting of Michigan and Anne L. Hall of Franklin. Also survived by five grandchildren. Funeral InformationRelatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday October 13, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South Street in Foxboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 14, at 10 AM at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer 212 Main Street in Foxboro. Interment to follow at Rock Hill cemetery in Foxboro.
