Beloved Husband and Uncle Allentown, PA – Herbert Heath Welch, age 93, formerly of Hasbrouck, NJ died June 9, 2010 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Mary J. (Ahern) Welch, they were married for 67 years last October. Herbert was a Vice President of Labor Relations at Mack Trucks in Allentown from 1962 until retiring in 1981. Prior to that, he was a labor relations manager at Wright Aeronautical in Woodbridge, NJ for 12 years. He was a 1950 graduate of Brown University, and was a member of its alumni association. Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Reginald Percy and Esther (Johannson) Welch. He was a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown. At the church, he was a member of its Prime Time Club and Men of St. Thomas More Club. For 12 years he was on the board of trustees for the Mary Alice Miller Scholarship Fund. He was a former member of Brookside Country Club. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He was a staff sergeant in the European Theatre and participated in the Invasion at Normandy. He was a past president of the Board of Trustees for the Half Way House during its organizational years, a vice president of the Board of Trustees for the family and children center and representative on the counseling board of several local hospitals working with AA. He was a former member of the University Club of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ and the Bergen County, NJ Industrial Management Club.
He is survived by his wife, nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Information
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, June 18 at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter Street, Foxborough. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Foxborough.
