Sylvester Arnold Vanden Boom

November 26, 1929 - June 28, 2006

Long time Foxboro Resident

Sylvester Arnold “Whitey” Vanden Boom, age 76, of Rome New York died at his home on Wednesday June 28, surrounded by the Comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late Martin and Philomena (Van Ryte) Vanden Boom.

Whitey was born on November 26, 1929 in Combined Locks, Wisconsin. He began his career in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate during the Korean War. After the War he continued with the Navy Seabees as a Builder until his retirement in 1991.

He married his wife Mary Kathleen (Brown) on February 19, 1955 and raised their two children, Kathleen and Karl, in Foxboro. He was a Foxboro resident for the past 44 years.

In addition to his navy career, he was a sales representative for the Knights of Columbus Insurance Company. He was a long time member of the Foxboro Knights of Columbus 6063 Council and was one of the founders of the K of C Farm stand in Foxboro. He was a member of the CB 12 Seabees Association. He was a proud Ten Gallon Plus donor for the American Red Cross Association.

Husband of the late Mary Kathleen (Brown) Vanden Boom. Loving Father of Kathleen “Kacey” Blaney of Rome, New York and Karl Vanden Boom of Foxboro. Brother of Cornelius Vanden Boom of Gross Pointe Woods, MI, Geraldine Van Hoet of Warren, MI, Robert Vanden Boom of Oxford, MI, Mary Green of Lake Worth, FL, David Vanden Boom of Kissimee, FL, Diane Van Hoet of Warren, MI, Christine Bayhan of Detoit, MI, and Paul Vanden Boom of Roseville, MI. He was also survived by ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Sunday July 2, from 3-6:00 PM at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home 30 South St. Foxboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday July 3, at 9:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Carpenter St. Foxboro. Interment with Navy Honors to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Foxboro.
