Foxborough-Joan Marie McGowan, age 72, died on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the
Stanley Tippett House in Needham after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late James M. “Spo” McGowan and daughter of the late John and Catherine (Keaveney) Sullivan.

Joan was born on July 25, 1937 in Boston’s Mission Hill Neighborhood. She was a graduate of Mission High School, Class of 1955 and married her husband James at Mission Church on October 11, 1958. She has been a Foxborough resident for the past forty years.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She also enjoyed visiting her many relatives in her travels to Ireland. She was a former treasurer for the Foxborough Touchdown Club and was a supporter of Foxborough youth sports teams.

Beloved mother of James McGowan and his wife Stephanie of Foxborough, Catherine Kent of Boston, Kevin McGowan and his wife Kathy of Mansfield and John McGowan and his wife Yvonne of Norwood. Devoted grandmother of Kaitlyn, John, Patrick, Kelly, Michael, Ryanne and Harley. Sister of John Sullivan of Framingham and Catherine Cudmore of Riverdale, GA.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, June 1, from 4-8 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St. in Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church on Carpenter St. in Foxborough. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Foxborough.
