Thatcher F. Carl
September 13, 1935 - October 31, 2008
Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. Thatcher Foster Carl was born on September 13, 1935 in Foxboro, MA. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 31st.
He was the son of the late Thatcher Foster Carl, Sr. and Bettie (Collins) Carl. Siblings include Charles Carl of Coventry, CT, Bettie Brombley of Attleboro and the late Cecelia Carl.
He was employed by Honeywell as a computer engineer for 35 years before retiring in 1992. He worked as a service manager for Winslow’s Auto Clinic for 10 years. He was an official for the Southeastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association for 45 years. He was an umpire for the Foxboro Company’s softball league and officiated football for Pop Warner.
Thatcher married the love of his life Marjorie Spencer in Foxboro. They were voted Foxboro High School Class sweethearts and were married for 53 years. His children include Mary Lynn Winslow and her husband George of Norton, Donna Nilson and her husband Barry of Amherst, NH, Marjorie S. Carl and her spouse Kathy Garmus of Richmond, RI and Nancy Greco and her husband Brian of Norton. He had seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren with one on the way.
“TC”, as he was known to family and friends, enjoyed living 6 months in Foxboro and 6 months a year at his home in Stuart, FL. He loved the Lord and attended the South Union Church of South Foxboro. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. TC loved sports. He played football, baseball and ran track for Foxboro High School. He went on to play semi-pro football for the Whitmen Town League and the Murphy Club of New Bedford for 10 years. He was an avid downhill skier and loved golf. He was proud of his hole in one at Norton Country Club in 2000. He also loved his sports cars. TC received the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Award for High School Official of the Year in 2001. He was a member of the Elks. He was a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Football Officials Association. He served as Coordinator for the Area Church Softball League.
Funeral Information
Friends and relatives are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, November 4 from 4 to 8 pm at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxboro. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 5 at 11 am at the Church of Emmanuel Christian & Missionary Alliance, 106 Central Street, Foxboro.
